- Story Text: Uri Geller, who has travelled the world with his psychic spoon-bending and watch-stopping act, laid down a challenge in London on Thursday (January 11) to world-wide users of the Internet to bend a spoon and win a million United States (US) dollars.
Geller said he would give one million dollars to anyone who could bend a spoon locked in a safe in front of a camera at his home near London. Anyone able to bring their own psychic powers to bear on the spoon and bend it while watching its image on the Internet would be invited to participate in paranormal tests by telephone with Geller.
Those able to demonstrate special psychic gifts would be brought to Uri Geller's home to attend a final spoon bending display, and if successful win one million dollars.
Geller anounced his challenge at exactly eleven minutes past eleven, on the eleventh of the month. The number eleven is reputed to hold psychic and spiritual associations.
Geller, an Israeli citizen who says he was born with special powers, said he thought children under 16 had the best chance of bending the spoon via computer. He said it was rare for adults to be openminded, but children were not as sceptical, were believers and dreamers and had more chance of success in bending the spoon.
