GV Delegates applaud 1.50 MR. AL-MAGHUR: "It has become very clear to the wold that the United States of America has placed in the service of the Zionist gangs all its military and material potentials, without any limit. Moreover, it has become a ???atter of fact that the same member of the Security Council has placed its right of veto in the hands of the Zionist gang, challenging the conscience of the world community in defiance of the Charter of the United Nations. The Zionist gang, with the connivance of the United States, terrorises, murders, annexes and expands with the intention of imposing on the Arab Nation a policy of defeatism and acquiescence. When the Arab Nation defends itself by liberating its territories, the Zionist gangs and their supporters deny us our legitimate rights." MR AL-ZAYYAT: (in English) "The result, Mr. President, that our morale is rising, our anger is rising, our determination to end this policy of brigandry and lawlessness is increased. Mr. President, this will be Egypt's contribution this year to the general debate. Thank you." Initials ESP/2016 ESP/2044 Script is copyright Reuters Limited. All rights reserved

- Story Text: Although the United Nations General Assembly debated the Middle East crisis for four hours on Thursday night, it failed to reach agreement on a cease-fire.
The United Nations' Secretary-General, Dr. Kurt Waldheim, appealed to the "conflicting nations" to end the fighting and bloodshed before it was too late.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Dr. Muhammad al-Zayyat, addressed the Assembly in English, unlike many other Arab delegates, who chose to speak in Arabic, for which they are seeking recognition as an official U.N. language.
The Libyan delegate, Mr. Kamal Hassan Al-Maghur, also addressed the Assembly. A translation of part of his speech follows:
SYNOPSIS: On the last day of the general debate at the United Nations in New York several Arab delegates addressed the General Assembly. On Thursday night, the Middle East crisis was debated for four hours.
The Assembly failed to reach an agreement for a cease-fire, although the Secretary-General had earlier appealed to "the conflicting nations" to and the bloodshed and fighting before it was too late.
One Arab delegate to address the General Assembly was the Libyan representative. Mr. Kamal Hassan Al-Maghur.
He told the General Assembly it was clear to the world that the United States had placed all its military and material resources at the service of what he termed "the Zionist gangs."
Egypt's Foreign Minister, Dr. Muhammed al-Zayyat, also addressed the Assembly. Unlike other Arab speakers, he spoke in English.
Earlier in the day the Egyptian Foreign Minister had told the Assembly of Egyptian war casualties.
