BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, SADNESS BECAUSE WE HAVE PUT A LOT OF OURSELVES INTO THIS THEATRE OF OPERATIONS AND THIS APPOINTMENT ALSO, BECAUSE WE HAD ACHIEVED A LOT AND THERE WAS MORE FOR US TO ACHIEVE. - Story Text: New Zealand United Nations peacekeepers in Bosnia said farewell to British IFOR (Implementation Force) troops on Friday (December 22) in spectacular style.
The commanding officer and representatives from the First Battalion of Royal Fusiliers arrived at the New Zealand camp of Santici just outside Vitez for the Maori "Haka", a traditonal wardance performed as a mark of respect between warriors.
The New Zealanders are going home at the end of the year.
New Zealand has supplied peacekeepers in Bosnia under the United Nations mandate since March 1994. The third and last contingent arrived last September.
The New Zealand troops are due to leave on December 28, and will not be replaced.
A Dutch contingent is expected to be housed in the Santici base.
