- Story Text: United States Vice-President Spiro Agnew on Wednesday had talks in Saigon with President Nguyen Van Thieu.
Mr. Agnew, who drove to Independence Palace to see President Thieu just a few hours after arriving at Saigon's Tan Son Nhut Airport, has said that the United States would continue to support President Thieu's Government as the legitimate regime in South Vietnam.
The American Vice-President, who is making a week-long tour of South Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, and Indonesia, discussed post-ceasefire relations with the South Vietnamese President.
Mr. Agnew has stressed that the United States does not recognise the right of any foreign troops to remain on South Vietnamese soil. He has promised that the Americans will work with the South Vietnamese as partners in peace following the United States military withdrawal.
