- Story Text: Two United Arab Emirates soldiers serving with the
NATO-led peace force were wounded when grenades hit their
headquarters, in what is seen as a revenge attack for the
fatal shooting of two ethnic Albanians earlier this week, a
NATO spokesman said on
Thursday (August 24).
In Svinjare, grieving relatives of the two Kosovar
Albanians buried their dead on Thursday.
One soldier was injured in the right leg and
another in the ear, when two grenades, fired from a passing
car, slammed into the headquarters of the United Arab Emirates
contingent in northern Kosovo, Major Scott Slaten, a spokesman
for the NATO-led force, known as KFOR, told reporters in
Pristina.
"In what can only be seen as a retaliatory attack for
the shooting of two Kosovar Albanians, two KFOR United Arab
Emirates (UAE) soldiers were wounded last night by rifle
grenades that were fired against the UAE Headquarters in the
town of Vucitrn," he said.
"Let there be no doubt, the safety and protection of my
peacekeepers is a primary concern of mine. An attack on one
KFOR nation is an attack on all of KFOR. This will not be
tolerated," Slaten added.
In Svinjare, grieving relatives of the two Kosovar
Albanians buried their dead onThursday.
The father, shot by a UAE soldier at a checkpoint near
Mitrovica, had died instantly. His 21 year old son died later
of his wounds.
The man's wife and two daughters led the funeral
procession.
