- Story Text: U.S. troops and allies in Iraq mark the third
anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
U.S. soldiers on Saturday (September 11, 2004) gathered
for a ceremony to mark the third anniversary of the
devastating Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.
Almost 3000 people died when hijackers crashed planes
into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a
Pennsylvania field.
The 3rd Signal Brigade of the 57th Signal Battalion of
the 3rd Corps hosted the ceremony, holding a minute of
silence for those who perished.
Addressing the ceremony Lieutenant-General Thomas F.
Metz pledged to continue the fight on terror.
"We've been fighting this thing for three years and we
will continue to fight it until we have destroyed terrorism
and made our country safe and our coalition countries safe
from terrorism," he declared.
The continuing violence across the country was a
reminder that U.S. military action since the attacks had
not wiped out militant groups hostile to the United States
and allied nations.
