- Story Text: In Brussels on Thursday (5 April), an agreement on the peaceful use of atomic nuclear materials was signed by the European Economic Community member countries.
The Director General of the United Nations Atomic Energy Agency, and the Common Market Science Commissioner, Mr. Ralf Dehrendorf, signed the agreement which implements the means of control and verification set up under the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.
The agreed controls will apply to all EEC members except Britain and France -- the only two EEC countries with nuclear weapons. The seven members affected will be required to send monthly reports to the European Commission on the technical aspects of nuclear materials in their possession. Information on quantities and storage locality will also have to be provided. EEC inspectors would be fr??? check on these reports, accompanied by U.N.
