- Story Text: A U.S. soldier has been killed and three others
wounded in a landmine attack in Falluja.
Two separate attacks targeted the U.S. forces in
Sunni areas on Tuesday (September 9), one in Falluja 60km
west of Baghdad and the other in Ramadi 110 km west of
Baghdad.
U.S. soldiers immediately went to the scene.
Eyewitnesses said that a land mine exploded when a U.S.
military convoy drove over it. The explosion destroyed a
U.S. humvee, killed one soldier and injured three others.
Meanwhile, another attack launched by unknown assailants
targeted a military convoy of two humvee in Ramadi 110 km
west of Baghdad.
The U.S. military has not yet confirmed either attack.
Rafid Duleimi, an eyewitness to the second attack, said
that two U.S. military vehicles came under attack,
destroying one of the vehicles and killing all soldiers
inside it.
His account has not been independently verified.
A civilian car was also damaged during the attack.
U.S. troops have been plagued by hit and run attacks
since the fall of Baghdad to the coalition forces on April
9TH.
The continuing violence in Iraq is stretching occupying
forces thin. Washington is seeking 15,000 more troops from
other nations and reconstruction funds to back its own
commitment of 130,000 troops and billions of dollars in
Iraq.
