- Story Text: Hollywood actor Bruce Willis has visited U.S. troops
on the border between Iraq and Iran.
Actor Bruce Willis visited U.S. troops stationed
near to the Iran-Iraq border on Friday (September 26, 2003).
Willis, travelling inside Iraq by U.S. army helicopter
landed at a small helipad used by 1-10th Cavalry of the 4th
Infantry Division. The Hollywood megastar spoke to
soldiers, shook hands, signed pictures and posed for
photographs. Task force 1-10th Cavalry is based in the city
of Tursaq and is responsible for more than 300 kilometres
of Iran-Iraq border from Kuwait to the north, and deals
with hundreds of Iranians seeking pilgrimage after days of
long walks through mountains towards the holy Shi'ite city
of Kerbala.
"It doesn't really matter where I am over here. I feel
a lot of pride for these guys out here. If I were a little
younger I'd be out here with them," Willis said.
"What they're doing here is a good thing, it's a
humanitarian thing. They're taking care of a lot of these
guys that are coming out of Iran on their own pilgrimages
and helping take care of them," he added.
Willis, who was one of the Hollywood celebrities
defending the war against Iraq, also gave a rock concert
for U.S. troops near the Syrian border.
