- Story Text: The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zaid Bin Sultan Alnahyane arrived in Paris on Thursday (3 July) for two days of talks with French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing.
It's the first time the U.A.E. President has visited France and he was greeted with full military honours and met by French dignitaries and an Arab delegation.
The two Presidents will discuss the possibility of resuming stalled talks between oil producing and all consuming nations. Talks in April ended in deadlock when the United States and other industrialised nations refused to include on the agenda a discussion of raw materials other than oil.
But President Giscard says he is ready to support a resumption of the talks because there are now sight they could be successful.
Sheikh Zaid says it is important that the dialogue resume and denies that the recent talks were a failure. He says they provides all sides with an opportunity to outline their views.
French officials say the Sheikh will also discuss with President Giscard French industrial and technological assistance to the U.A.E.
