Police are investigating the explosion of two makeshift explosive devices outside the Mexican Consulate in New York on Friday (October 26).
Police cordoned off the area outside the building on the East Side of midtown Manhattan and the bomb squad was scouring the scene for evidence.
Police said there were no injuries.
"At about 3:50 (7:50 gmt) this morning, two improvised training grenades were thrown over the wall here at the Mexican Consulate," said New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.
Kelly said the devices were similar to makeshift grenades that exploded outside the British Consulate in New York in 2005.
"They are remarkably similar. The event that happened.. this happened at 0350 in the morning. The event that happened at 845 Third Avenue two years was about 0340 in the morning. So you have an individual on a bicycle, you have these two type devices that are used, it happened roughly ten minutes apart from each another," said Kelly.
In May 2005, two home-made grenades exploded outside an office building whose tenants include the British Consulate.
