Mercenaries from all over the United Stats have been gathering in Las Vegas - the setting for their annual convention. The five-day conference, organised by 'Soldier of Fortune' magazine, has been held for the past seven years. Participants, including a strong female contingent, turned up in full battle-dress. Some brought along impressive arrays of weaponry, including machine-guns, rifles and knives. Seminars at the convention included instruction in fighting with knives, counter-insurgency techniques and shoot-outs. Delegates also participated in a range of competitions. The 'headhunter contest' attracted widespread interest, with competitors overcoming a series of obstacles to track down their 'prey'. The organiser of the five-day conference, 'Soldier of Fortune' magazine, also arranged a series of real-life challenges for would-be head-hunters. These include a 10,000 US dollar award for the capture of ex-Ugandan head of state Idi Amin.
