- Story Text: Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal says Luke Shaw is not fit and is training individually.
Manchester United Manger Louis Van Gaal said on Monday (July 29) that Luke Shaw joined the United in Washington in need of some training.
"I'm always trying to be the coach who sees the individuals and what an individual player needs and I think he needs to be fit and he's not very fit. Therefore he cannot perform what I want so he has to first fit and then he has to train individually," Van Gaal said.
It was the first time that Shaw has joined the team since his 27m move to Old Trafford from Southampton.
Van Gaal said he has spoke with the England national team defender and that Shaw has agreed with the Dutchman's assessment.
The new Manchester United Coach also discussed the teams formations. The team used a 3-5-2 formation in International Champions Cup tour games against the Los Angeles Galaxy and Roma.
"It is difficult to change the systems and I have to start at once because of that. We don't have time for it. Now we have three weeks before the competition starts so I have to use all my training sessions to implement the system," Van Gaal said.
The former Dutch National Coach said the players already know the 4-4-2 and the 4-3-3 so he can focus on the new formation.
Defender Chris Smalling said he is looking forward to the change, "We's very much looking forward to playing this formation. We obviously saw Holland's success in the summer so that gives us a lot of confidence that we can pick it up and do a good job but we've learning each day and each day we're making gradual improvements and so we know that we will keep improving and get better and better."
