  • Story Text: An Israeli missile strike kills a Hamas militant in the northern Gaza Strip, Hamas and residents said.
    Hamas said that a member of its armed wing was killed and three others were wounded in an Israeli aircraft attack in the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanoun on Saturday (October 13).
    An Israeli army spokesman in Tel Aviv said that the strike was aimed at a group of Gaza militants that had launched a rocket at Israel.
    Israel's military frequently conducts raids and air strikes in the Gaza Strip to try to stop militants from firing rockets into southern Israel.
    Later on Saturday, thousands of Palestinians took part in a street funeral procession for the militant in the town of Beit Hanoun. Mourners carried the body, wrapped in a green Hamas flag, and chanted pro-Hamas slogans.
    The crowded streets of the town were dominated by the green of Hamas flags waved by the crowds as the procession moved towards the local cemetery.
