- Story Text: An Israeli air strike blew up a car in central Gaza on Thursday (July 26), killing at least three militants, Palestinian medical workers said.
Israel confirmed the air strikes and said the raid in the southern part of Gaza was aimed at preventing militants from launching rockets into the Jewish state.
The Islamic Jihad militant group identified one of the dead as Omar al-Khatib, a top commander in Gaza who survived an Israeli air strike on Tuesday (July 24). The other two killed were also from Islamic Jihad, the group said.
Earlier on Thursday, Israeli forces killed two Palestinians, including a man beaten to death at a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank and a Hamas gunman who died in a Gaza air strike, military spokesmen and medics said.
Hamas sources said the Islamist group's gunmen had fired grenades at raiding Israeli forces near the Sufa border crossing. The troops fired back, killing one gunman from the group. Militants fired a rocket at Israel during the raid, causing no injury, a military spokeswoman said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
