- Story Text: The Israeli military said on Thursday (October 7) it carried out an air strike in the Gaza Strip against Palestinian militants planning an attack against Israel.
Palestinian witnesses said the air strike targeted a car travelling in the central Gaza Strip. All three passengers in the car suffered minor wounds and managed to escape.
An Israeli army spokeswoman said the main target of the strike was Ahmad al-Ashkar, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) militant group.
"The organisation was planning attacks against Israel in the coming days," the spokeswoman said, giving no further details.
Israel frequently carries out air strikes in the Gaza Strip, which is controlled by the Islamist group Hamas. The air strikes are usually preceded by rockets fired from Gaza into Israel.
Israeli aircraft targeted a Hamas training camp earlier on Thursday (October 7) after a rocket fired from Gaza exploded in Israel. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
