- Story Text: Lufthansa scraps hundreds of flights at its CityLine and Eurowings regional carriers as stranded passengers show little sympathy.
Deutsche Lufthansa scrapped hundreds of flights at its CityLine and Eurowings regional carriers on Monday (July 7) as pilots walked out in a 24-hour strike over pay.
Lufthansa said 559 services had been cancelled so far.
CityLine and Eurowings together operate almost 700 of some 1,800 daily Lufthansa group flights.
The strike hit passengers at airports across Germany, including Lufthansa's main hubs at Frankfurt and Munich.
One stranded Lufthansa passenger, Soeren Staeudel, showed no sympathy for the walkout, telling Reuters in Munich "all I'm really interested in is whether or not I will make my connecting flight."
"I'm not interested in finding out why they are on strike,"
Staeudel said.
The walkout started at 2200 GMT on Sunday and followed a breakdown in talks between the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots' union and the airline and a vote in favour of strike action by pilots.
In a separate dispute over pay for ground staff and cabin crew at Lufthansa, talks are due to resume between the carrier and the Verdi union on Wednesday after they failed to reach a deal this week. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
