- Story Text: Israeli air strikes targeted two Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip early on Sunday (January 2), an Israeli military spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson, the targeted sites were used for "terror activity and weapons manufacturing" and were directly hit.
Palestinian medical officials reported two Palestinian civilians were lightly wounded by the air strike on the Jabalya refugee camp.
The Israeli army said the air strikes were in response to the launching of a rocket from Gaza towards Israel on Saturday (January 1).
Last week, both Israel and Gaza's Islamist rulers Hamas said they wanted to avoid an escalation of violence. But rockets and mortars fired from Gaza have rained down almost daily on southern Israel this month and Israeli forces have frequently struck targets in the coastal territory. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
