- Story Text: Israeli military hits car in northern Gaza with airstrike. Just before the airstrike, three rockets hit southern Israeli town of Sderot damaging houses. A missile fired from an Israeli aircraft hit a car in the northern Gaza Strip on Saturday (April 21), killing one Palestinian militant and wounding another, local residents said.
The Israeli army was checking the details of the report.
Fellow militants said the men in the car belonged to the Islamic Jihad militant group.
The residents said the car was probably leaving an area from which rockets had earlier been fired into Israel.
The Israeli army said that three rockets had been fired into Israel from the Gaza Strip and that one had landed on a house in the border town of Sderot.
An Israeli ambulance service said two people had been taken to hospital and were being treated for light injuries. Local residents said four others, including a pregnant woman, were being treated at the scene for shock.
The militant's death in Gaza followed Israel's killing of four Palestinians in the occupied West Bank earlier on Saturday, three of them militants.
The rocket fire on Sderot came as a response to the killings, militant groups said.
The Islamic militant Group Hamas held a rally late Saturday after the rocket attacks and air-strike. The rally was originally scheduled to mark the anniversary of the death of Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantissi, and to show support for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, however Hamas leaders at the rally did condemn the Israeli airstrike. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
