Story Text: Israeli warplanes struck the Gaza Strip on Wednesday (February 9), injuring several people, witnesses and paramedics said.
The witnesses said the planes had flown over the Gaza Strip, hitting a medicine factory in Jabalya.
Ambulances and firefighters rushed to the scene to evacuate the wounded and put out the intense fire.
The medicine factory sustained heavy damage.
An Israeli army spokesperson said the Israeli military had struck three locations in the Gaza Strip in response to five rockets fired into southern Israel during the day.
Palestinian militants have stepped up cross-border rocket attacks on southern Israel in recent weeks, prompting Israeli air strikes.
The Gaza Strip's Hamas rulers say they have been urging militant factions to cease fire, a call reflecting concern that Israel might mount another offensive in the territory.
