- Story Text: An Israeli air strike wounded at least one man and his 10-year-old daughter when it struck a house in the Alzayton neighbourhood, south of Gaza City in the early hours of Sunday (December 11).
Local residents gathered around the site of the air strike and watched on as fire-fighters made efforts to quell the raging fire inside the house.
Ashraf Badwan, who lives next door to the house that was targeted, rushed his daughter Sondos to a local hospital.
"We were sleeping in the night normally as other people and it was around 2:30 in the morning, when the enemy air force strike targeted our neighbour's small house, and as we are close to them I was surprised by the explosion," said Ashraf, after he had received medical treatment for his injuries.
Early on Sunday, Palestinian medical officials confirmed an Israeli air strike hit a house, sending shrapnel flying into nearby houses, wounding two civilians.
The Israeli military said that overnight an IAF aircraft targeted a weapon manufacturing site in the northern Gaza Strip. Direct hits were confirmed and secondary explosions were identified. The site was targeted in response to the ongoing rocket fire from the Gaza Strip.
The latest round of fighting erupted on Thursday (December 08) when an Israeli air strike targeted a car on a crowded Gaza street, killing two militants who Israel said were planning attacks against its civilians and soldiers.
Palestinian gunmen responded with a barrage of rockets fired deep into southern Israel, some landing near the city of Beersheba, causing no injuries. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
