- Story Text: Twenty five people were injured during an Israeli air strike on a family home in Gaza, Palestinian medics said on Monday (March 12), as cross-border violence continued for a fourth day.
Witnesses said the air strike hit a two-storey house owned by the Hamad family early on Monday morning, with a number of children amongst those injured.
Militant group Islamic Jihad said the attack had targeted a Palestinian militant who was believed to be in the area.
An Israeli military spokesman confirmed the strike had taken place, but gave no further details.
On Sunday (March 11) Gaza militants said three Palestinians were killed, including a 12-year old boy.
The violence flared on Friday (March 10) when an Israeli air strike killed two Palestinian militant leaders in Gaza. A salvo of rockets was fired into Israel in revenge, leaving six people wounded.
About 40 of those rockets were intercepted and destroyed by Israel's Iron Dome anti-missile system, the Israeli military said. The army has estimated that more than 150 rockets have been fired into southern Israel since Friday.
Islamic Jihad and the Popular Resistance Committees, armed groups largely independent of Hamas, have said they fired most of the rockets launched at Israel.
The attacks have disrupted normal life in southern Israel, forcing many schools to close. Israeli aircraft have continued to fly attacks over the Gaza strip, killing at least 16 people, including militants, since Friday. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
