- Story Text: Around 80 aviation employees who are on strike for four days demonstrated in front of Terminal 2 at Charles de Gaulle airport on Monday (February 6) to protest a draft bill that would aim to have minimum service for air travellers during industrial action.
The protesters included ground staff as well as flight attendants represented by trade unions FO, CGT, CFDT and Sud.
Around 50 police officers, including officers in riot gear were deployed to the scene to prevent any violence from erupting and to prevent traffic disruption.
Unions say the draft bill proposed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy's UMP party will undermine the rights of workers. Earlier calls from unions for amendments to the bill were rejected by the transport ministry.
The new bill is similar to a rail and urban transport law introduced in 2007 which ensures a minimum service guarantee. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
