- Story Text: A temporary warning strike at ten airports across Germany left air traffic at the country's busiest airport unaffected on Monday (December 10), according to operators Fraport.
Some 1,000 personnel out of 15,000 employees from private security firms at the ten airports followed calls for the limited walk out, according to "Verdi" union representative Mathias Venema.
"Our demands include fair work contracts and not just the 80 hour contracts. We would finally like to see the end of temporary work contracts. We want to achieve permanent ones," Venema said.
His union's announcement came at short notice late on Sunday night and just hours after Frankfurt airport was forced to cancel all incoming flights due to snow.
One passenger who said he travelled every week and gave his name as Maximilian Rudolph said he had sympathy for the security personnel on strike.
"They too need the money. The amount of hours these guys work, it's tough," Rudolph said.
Stavola Ekoutsidou said "as long as I catch my flight everything is fine. If I don't catch it, I'll get angry."
According to Frankfurt airport operators Fraport, business was back to normal on Monday morning.
Snowfall had stopped overnight and the temporary strike did not affect departures or landings.
The other airports where "Verdi" staged walk outs were Berlin's Schoenefeld and Tegel airports, Hamburg, Hanover, Stuttgart, Duesseldorf, Bremen, Cologne-Bonn and Baden-Baden/Karlsruhe.
According to a spokesman for Berlin's airports, 33 flights from Tegel airport had to be cancelled because of the strike. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
