- Story Text: Israel launched two air strikes on two militant camps in Gaza on Monday (January 13), after two missiles were launched into southern Israel, the Israeli army said.
No injuries were reported in any of the attacks.
Farmer Nidal Abu Arafat witnessed the air strikes and came to assess the damage on Tuesday (January 14).
"The Israelis struck this area. This is an agricultural area, and only contains agricultural equipment, water pipes, nothing else. This is a rest area for agricultural workers who work here, they come here to rest to have breakfast or lunch, that's it, nothing more."
The militant missiles were launched into southern Israel soon after the funeral of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
Sharon was buried at his family farm 10 km (6 miles) from the border of the Gaza Strip.
Israel had strengthened security for the funeral and warned Hamas not to allow rocket fire during the ceremony. The army was on high alert lest any rockets be fired out of the Palestinian territory.
Sharon was regarded as a war hero at home in Israel but as a war criminal by many in the Arab world. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
