- Story Text: An Israeli helicopter fired a missile into a metal workshop in Gaza City on Monday (April 17, 2006) causing no casualties, hours after a Palestinian suicide bomber killed 9 people in Tel Aviv, witnesses said.
The Israeli military has carried out similar attacks in the past against workshops suspected of making parts for rockets launched by militants towards southern Israel.
An Israeli army spokeswoman said that the airstrike was aimed at a workshop used by the Popular Resistance Committes to manufacture Qassam rockets.
One man was killed and two were wounded earlier on Monday after the residential building they were in was hit by Israeli artillery in northern Gaza.
The shelling occurred in the area of Beit Lahiye, in northern Gaza.
Israeli army forces have been regularly shelling the area in recent weeks. Army spokesmen say the shelling is intended to hit areas from which Palestinian militants launch rockets into Israel.
In a different incident, residents of Khan Younis in southern Gaza told Reuters that Israeli naval vessels fired five shells into Gaza. There were no reports of injuries in that incident. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
