- Story Text: An Israeli military aircraft fired two missiles at a car in the northern Gaza Strip on Monday (February 6, 2006), killing two Palestinian militants, security and medical sources said. Hundreds of residents of the Jabalya refugee camp gathered around the ruins of the car, using flash lights to look through the rubble.
At the local morgue, several men who came to mourn for the dead cried and fainted as others chanted 'God is great'. An Israeli military spokeswoman confirmed the air strike took place near Jabalya refugee camp, saying it targeted militants who were en route to carry out a cross-border rocket attack.
A Palestinian security source identified the dead as Rami Hannoun and Hassan Asfour, local commanders of al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed wing of President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah faction that has helped spearhead a 5-year-old uprising. Al-Aqsa vowed revenge. "Our answer is open war on all Zionists, soldiers and civilians," a spokesman for the group, Abu Qusai, said.
