- Story Text: Italian justice virtually ground to a halt today as an estimated 5000 of the country's 7000 judges came out on a forty-eight-hour strike. The judges are demanding pay rises up to party with top civil servants. Left wing judges and those in senior positions did not join the strike but only one court in Rome's vast Palace of Justice was in operation today. Many defendants, unaware of the strike, turned up only to find the courts closed with notices on the door saying, 'Closed due to strike'.
