- Story Text: 1800 Belgian miners went on strike June 20 in protest against the Government's decision to close Wandre and Herstal coal mines, in Liege. On a wall at the pit-head the slogan "Pas de Fermeture"; assembled at the idle pit- the striking workers, listening to speeches from their leaders.
The miners also staged a protest demonstration in the centre of Liege. Their view and that of their leaders: the mines can be worked for another twenty years. They decided to stay on strike for 48 hours.
