- Story Text: Government legislators worked into the early hours of this morning in Stockholm on an emergency bill temporarily banning strikes and lockouts in the public sector in an attempt to end Sweden's worst labour conflict since the second world war. The law, coming after 37 days of crippling strikes by 47,000 civil servants, is expected to be finalised at a special cabinet meeting within 24 hours before being rushed through parliament. The emergency measure, coming as the conflict threatened to spread to the armed forces, is the first case of direct Government intervention in a labour dispute in Sweden.
