- Story Text: Forty Turkish students were on a hunger strike in Paris on Monday (24 January) to protest against death sentences pronounced on three students in Turkey. The death sentences were passed on the students who took part in the kidnapping of three American soldiers in Turkey last spring. The soldiers were released unharmed. The students have also said they're protesting against martial law and "fecist oppression" in Turkey.
One of the students' spokesmen explained in French why his colleagues were taking part in a hunger strike. A translation of the French sound follows. We are proving an English commentary over the french sound which editors may wish to use.
