- Story Text: As talks continue in a bid to avert NATO airstrikes in Yugoslavia, villagers in Kosovo are stockpiling food and goods in case of a shortage.
In Rome, meanwhile, Radical Party protesters have rallied to urge NATO not to bomb Yugoslavia.
In the village of Klina, 50 kms from the Kosovan capital of Pristina, only about ten per cent of the population is Serb, the rest are ethnic Albanian.
But both Serb and ethnic Albanian villagers took delivery on Saturday (October 10) of food and goods sent by the Yugoslav government and distributed by the local Red Cross.
Vuksan Peshic, a Serb who has lived in the village since World War II, said the Albanians had not bothered him and he had not bothered them.He said he took people at face value, not their nationality.
As he sat next to a pile of flour and food, he said that if NATO conducted airstrikes against Yugoslavia in retaliation for the bloodshed in Kosovo that it would not only be bad for the area but bad for the whole world.
In Rome, meanwhile, Italian Radical party members gathered in front of the U.S.embassy on Saturday to protest against proposed NATO military intervention in Kosovo.
The demonstrators propped a large papier mache missile in front of the embassy as a symbol of military intervention in Kosovo which they strongly oppose.
"We are here to tell our American friends this is not the best solution to the crisis" said Radical Party secretary and europarlamentarian Olivier Dupuis.
Holding banners reading "Europe, where are you now?" and "Indict Milosevic now", the Radical Party appealed to the international community, asking for the arrest of Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic as a solution to the Kosovo crisis.
The demonstrators want Milosevic to be brought before the International War Crimes Tribunal at the Hague and said this demand was backed by 30,000 European citizens, including parliamentarians, science and cultural personalities.
U.S.Balkan troubleshooter Richard Holbrook is in Belgrade for talks with Yugoslav President Milosevic to try to persuade him to accept a six-point ultimatum from the Big Power Contact Group and avoid punishing airstrikes.
