- Story Text: The first Union conflict facing the Government of President Hugo Banzer of Bolivia was resolved last week (23/24 April) by the resignation of two Cabinet Ministers and an executive of the Banco Agricola de Bolivia.
The Federation of Bank Employees of La Paz had declared a three-days strike at all bank and insurance companies -- two days in La Paz, and one day throughout the rest of Bolivia.
They were protesting about the appointment of 30 new executives to the Banco Agricola de Bolivia (Agriculture Bank) and the negligence of the Ministers of Labour and Agriculture in finding a solution to their problems and demands.
At the time of the dispute the Government was undergoing major changes. On Monday (April 23) the entire Cabinet resigned giving President Banzer freedom to put together a new team.
President Banzer in fact, with only a few exceptions, reshuffled the seam team to form his new Cabinet. He said it had been done in an effort to develop a new programme of economic and social revitalisation for the country.
Once the Cabinet crisis was resolved the new Labour Minister Engineer Guillermo Fortun and the new Agriculture Minister. Colonel Alberta Natusch Busch resolved the conflicts. In an agreement signed between the Ministers, the Unions and the Bank Executive it was anteed that the government would ??? at the next meeting to study and resolve all the problems stemming from the ??? of personnel while taking into consideration the careers of those already employed by the bank.
The two days stoppage in La Paz took place but the nationwide strike was called off.
