- Story Text: One man was killed and a Communist legislator was seriously injured in outbreaks of violence during a 24 hour general strike in West Bengal, India.
The pro Moscow Communist Party of India and the Marxist Communist Party joined forces to sponsor the strike to protest against "profiteers, hoarders and high prices".
Both the Government and the strike organisers said the strike was about 50 per cent successful.
