- Story Text: Missile strike kills two Palestinians in Gaza
refugee camp.
Two Palestinians were killed in a missile attack by
an Israeli aircraft on Friday (October 15), hours after
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon gave the go-ahead for troops to
withdraw from parts of the northern Gaza Strip.
Witnesses said that the two men who were killed in he
strike are militants from the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
Several others were also wounded in the early morning
strike.
More than one hundred Palestinians have been killed in
Israel's largest offensive in four years.
Sharon had told Parliament earlier that the Gaza
offensive would continue and "be expanded if there is a
need for it".
Afterwards he agreed to a military blueprint to pull
forces out of heavily populated Jabalya and Beit Lahiya to
avoid Israeli casualties, reports said.
Asked about media reports the army would remove troops
from part of the sprawling Jabalya refugee camp, where some
of the worst fighting has taken place, Deputy Defence
Minister Zeev Boim told Israel Radio: "That is correct."
But Jabalya residents said early in the day they had
not seen any signs of a pullback.
Israel's offensive, its biggest in Gaza during the
Palestinian uprising, has killed at least 59 militants with
most of the other 41 dead believed to be civilians, medics
say.
Three Israelis and a Thai farmworker have also died.
