Summary:US tank columns moved deep into southern Iraq on February 27 in a continued offensive against Iraqi armed forces. Kuwaiti troops raised their national flag in Kuwait City, as the allies announced that the city was completely free. Hundreds of Iraqi soldiers continued to surrender, abandoning their tanks, guns and bunkers. Many of the POW's held safe-passage leaflets which had been dropped from warplanes, the wounded were evacuated in transport planes.
