- Story Text: The seventh annual Festival of Arts held at the National Cultural Centre Kumasi -- opened in Saturday -- has proved the most extensive yet held in Ghana. A large number of distinguished people attended the opening, including Sir Osei Agyeman Prempah the Second. The Festival was opened by Mr.A.K.Deku, Commissioner of Police and NLC member responsible for Sports, Art and Culture.
In his opening address, Mr Deku said that events such as the Kumasi Festival were imported if Ghana was to preserve its traditional cultures.
Two days after the opening, a special youth rally was staged at the Festival. Drumming and dancing were an important part of the festival, although a number of plays were also staged.
One welcome innovation was an international buffet which featured food from India, Lebanon and Czechoslovakia among other countries.
The day was rounded off by a night of music and dance in traditional costume, which included Scottish bagpipers.
