- Story Text: The conference of foreign ministers of 66 non-aligned nations opened in Georgetown, Guyana, on Tuesday (August 8) with the admission of a Viet Cong 'government' of South Vietnam as the principal issue. Within two days, the conference was in fact split on the issue -- with south-east Asian delegations from Indonesia, Malaysia and Laos boycotting the conference after the admission of the Viet Cong 'government-in-exile'.
Other issues to be debated were Khmer Republic representation, claimed by Prince Norodom Sihanouk in exile in The People's Republic of China; an Algerian motion to set up an association of non-aligned Mediterranean nations to halt the arms race in the Middle East; and a joint fund to finance African and Middle East 'liberation movements'.
