- Story Text: The ten nations of the enlarged Common Market agreed, on Wednesday (19 July) in Brussels, to work on the assumption that their planned autumn summit will be held on schedule in October and to push ahead with the preparations.
Foreign Ministers of the Common Market six and representatives of the four candidate nations--Britain, Ireland, Denmark and Norway--examined a 30-page document drawn up last week by their permanent representatives in Brussels. The document is a synopsis of II papers submitted by all the nations of the enlarged community, as well as the E.E.C. Executive Commission, in which they each gave a suggested list of agenda items for the summit and indicated their priorities.
Although no clear fundamental decisions were taken on Wednesday, economic and monetary union emerged as the number one priority for the Paris summit. External relations of the enlarged community and the strengthening of its institutions remain major agenda items. The crucial summit preparatory meeting will be the next one, scheduled for Rome on September 11 and 12.
