- Story Text: Experts form twenty-nine countries gathered in Addis Ababa yesterday (14 October) for the opening of a conference on the production of one of the world's most important crops - soya beans.
Scientists form Africa, Asia and America met at the Wabe Shabelle hotel in the Ethiopian capital, where the conference was officially opened by the Wthiopian capital, where the conference was officially opened by the Ethiopian Minister of Agriculture, Dr Dagnatchew Yirgou.
At the opening session, the principal speaker was Professor O.G. Bentley, Dean of Agriculture at the University of Illinois, who spoke of recent developments in the growing of soya beans..
The soya bean is an important crop, rich in protein. It can be used as a substitute for a wide variety of foodstuffs and is used as a baby food and in artificial meat as well as for animal feed and in pharmaceuticals.
