- Story Text: Representatives from eight countries are attending the Sub-Regional Conference of Arab Red Crescent Red Cross societies, being held in Amman, Jordan, under the patronage of king Hussein until Thursday (5 shots)
The conference, which began on Saturday (31 March), is discussing a wide range of subjects, including relief work, Arabic usage in Red Cross affairs, violations of the Geneva Conventions and the setting up of Red Crescent Red Cross societies in newly-independent countries.
National Red Crescent Red Cross societies from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, Baherin and Jordan are taking part in the conference.
SYNOPSIS: The Jordanian capital, Amman, is the host city for a six-day Sub-Regional Conference of Arab Red Crescent Red Cross societies. Representatives from eight countries are attending the conference, which began on the conference, which began on Saturday. It is being held under the patronage of Hussein of Jordan.
Delegates are discussion a wide range of matters connected with the work of the Red Crescent Red Cross societies. Monday's agenda included debate on violations of the Geneva Convention.
National societies from Bahrain and Tunisia are among those represented at the conference, which ends on Thursday. Delegates from the Saudi Arabian Red Crescat Red Cross group are also taking part.
A major item discussed at the conference was the use of Arabic in Red Cross affairs. The setting up of Red Crescent Red Cross societies in newly-independent countries was given extensive time. The Gulf sheikhdom of Kuwait has also sent a delegation to the conference.
The Jordanian delegation to the conference was accompanied by Dr. Ahmad Abu-Goura, President of his country's Red Crescent Red Cross Society, who welcomed the various national groups. Syria and Lebanon both sent delegations. Monday's session of the conference was addressed by representatives from the League of Red Cross Societies.
