Story Text: A blast struck an oil well on Thursday (May 24) in Iraq's Kirkuk oil fields in the Kurdish north of the country.
Firefighters were trying to prevent flames from causing further damage, oil employees said.
They said the blast was caused by bombs planted by saboteurs near the oil well in Hangeera, 35 km northwest of Kirkuk.
Bombs against oil pipelines have crippled the energy industry in northern Iraq, which is vital to Iraq's efforts to rebuild an economy shattered by insurgent violence.
