- Story Text: A Colombian search team calls off search after sniffer dogs and heavy machinery yield no sign of life.
A Colombian search team called off a search it had started earlier on Tuesday (January 26) after sniffer dogs and heavy machinery uncovered no sign of life in a pile of rubble.
The search began after Haitian Jean-Baptiste Pouchon appealed to the Red Cross, saying he had received an SMS message from his cousin Maggie - believed to be buried - two days ago.
A Colombian search team deployed sniffer dogs who found no sign of life. But because of the sheer amount of rubble, the team also sent in heavy machinery to clear some of it away.
The operation was ongoing throughout the afternoon.
Two weeks after the earthquake, search teams have largely turned their focus from rescue to recovery. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
