- Story Text: Six rockets hit an oil refinery at the Libyan city of Misrata controlled by rebels opposing Muammar Gaddafi, a witness said on Monday (June 13).
The rockets appeared to have hit the refinery's power generators and did not strike its oil storage facilities, the witness added. The refinery is located near Misrata's port.
It was not immediately clear who fired the rockets.
Libyan rebels were edging slowly beyond their western stronghold of Misrata towards Tripoli, but now face supply shortages after shelling from Gaddafi forces hit the key refinery.
An engineer on site said it was unclear how long it would take to repair.
"The refinery will be stopped producing (oil), only god knows when we shall be able to resume work. Perhaps until we find spare parts for the generators, may be it will take a week or ten days or a month to be able to fix it," he said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
