- Story Text: Saboteurs target a major oil pipeline in northern Iraq, setting it ablaze.
Saboteurs blew up a major oil pipeline north of Baghdad early on Tuesday (October 23).
The pipeline connecting Baiji, 180 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad to the Doura refinery in the capital was hit by a suspected improvised explosive device. Rescue teams had so far been unable to reach the area.
Sabotage bombs against oil pipelines have crippled the energy industry in northern Iraq, which is vital to Iraq's efforts to rebuild an economy shattered by insurgent violence. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
