- Story Text: Guinness World Record blood donor breaks record again.
Seventy-eight year-old Maurice Creswick of Johannesburg, who holds the world record for the most whole blood donations, broke his own record for the fourteenth time after he donated the 350th unit of blood.
Creswick broke the world record on July 9, 2003 when he donated his 336th unit of blood, for which he was awarded Guinness World Record status. Since then he has been donating his unit (480ml) every 56 days.
Creswick started donating blood in 1944 when he was 18-years-old.
"How many occasion in your life time do you waste fifteen or twenty minutes of your life, and here you can really do something positive and worthwhile, benefits the whole community across the whole spectrum, children, man, woman. Everybody can benefit from your twenty minutes of community service, and its absolutely a push over there's nothing to it," Creswick said.
He was further inspired to continue in his chosen community service by the previous record holder, the late Dr Ian Rogalsky, founder of the then South African Blood Transfusion Service, who donated 322 units of whole blood in his lifetime.
Mr Creswick has received a number of medals during his lifetime as a blood donor. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
