- Story Text: Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda said on Tuesday (June 17) the Group of Eight (G8) rich nations needed to send a message on tackling soaring energy and food prices and called for an increase in oil production as well as a clamp down on excessive energy consumption.
"We must tackle from what we can. First, would be to increase oil production in oil producing nations. Then, investment is also effective if we can spare the time," Fukuda told a group of news agencies in an interview ahead of a G8 leaders' summit meeting.
