Story Text: AN OIL PIPE LINE LINKING TRIESTE, IN ITALY, WITH THE BAVARIAN CITY OF INGOLSTADT IS NEARING COMPLETION.
THE PIPE LINE, ONE METRE IN DIAMETER, WILL CARRY OIL 460 KILOMETRES FROM TRIESTE TO BAVARIA.
THE PIPE LINE CONSTRUCTION FELL TEN WEEKS BEHIND SCHEDULE A FEW WEEKS AGO BECAUSE OF SEVERE FLOODING. BUT THIS SETBACK HAS BEEN OVERCOME AND ALREADY TESTS HAVE BEEN MADE WITH WATER TO TEST THE STRENGTH OF THE PIPE.
THE PIPE WILL CARRY 54-MILLION TONS OF OIL EACH YEAR. IT CROSSES A HIGH ALPINE RANGE DIVIDING ITALY AND WEST GERMANY. THE PROJECT HAS COST 185-MILLION U. S. DOLLARS.
THE FIRST OIL IS EXPECTED TO PASS THROUGH THE PIPE LINE IN APRIL.
