- Story Text: Canada's contribution to the airlift of vital fuel supplies into Zambia has started. The first planeloads have been flown onto Lusaka from Leopoldville. Canadian and Congolese officials were aboard the inaugural flight.
Oil supplies from Rhodesia to Zambia were cut off after Britain imposed oil sanctions against the rebel government of Mr. Ian Smith. A big British airlift is being operated from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, and the Canadian government is backing this up with supply flights from the Congo.
The first Canadian aircraft to land at Lusaka was met by the Zambian minister of labour, Mr. Nalumino Mundia, who thanked Canada for being the first Commonwealth country to come forward with effective for Zambia.
