- Story Text: Saudi Arabia's Oil and Mineral Resources Minister, Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani, was in Khartoum on Saturday (10 May) for the first Saudi-Sudanese joint committee for the exploration of Red Sea resources.
Sheikh Yamani had his first round of talks with the Sudanese Minister of Industry, Badr El Din Suleiman.
He said later that the committee, which was set up last year, discussed the basis of its work and its budget.
He added that the two countries had very friendly relations and they were trying to build a solid economic base for it.
Sheikh Yamani also met the Sudanese President Jaafar El-Nimeiry for further talks, but on wider issues covering relations between Arab and African countries.
It was thought that they discussed Sudan's proposal that next month's Arab summit be postponed until after the African summit scheduled to be held in Kampala, Uganda.
Saudi Arabia, however, agreed with Syria and Egypt that the Arab summit should go ahead as scheduled on June 28 in Mogadishu, the Somali capital.
